Coba- Fire!! and Coloring Books

Okay so forget all I said about being comfortable in my role...next week I will be learning a completely new list of responsibilities in a whole new location. Its the character room, called: "The Show Must Go On" cute huh?? I've really heard not too many positive things about it, but I'm gonna wait to see for myself before I pass judgements (let's see if I can use my positivity to make the best of it!) Anyways, in "The Show Must Go On" my responsibilities will be getting the characters ready to go out "on stage" to meet the guests. Doing Mickey's and the gang's laundry, making sure they are all put together and looking fabulous and doing other things to keep them and their "friends" happy. Though I don't think it will be as exciting as working Indiana Jones, I am excited for a new experience and for an opportunity to meet more characters. :D
So Jordyn and I found our inner child today and bought Disney coloring books, colored pencils, Disney stickers, and Disney postcards for a little "good clean fun" I love moments where I can totally feel like a kid again and not care about what someone else thinks of it! And I'm excited to color how fun is that?!?!
So while we were coloring: (Jorydn and a Snow White princess pic and me a Gnomeo and Juliet pic) the fire alarm in our entire building goes off! It was super, duper, a-mazingly loud and we had to stand outside for like 15-20 minutes...never found out what happened though given previous experience with many a dorm room (residence hall) I'd bet money on burnt popcorn...
I know tonight's a little short, but it was news I just had to share....

Coba- An Overdue Blonde Moment....

Its been a week since my last post and quite a bit has happened. "Burn In" for my job was a success!! I'm still asking questions and I've made a few small mistakes but all in all things are going well. I've been told by trainers that I learn fast so I'll take that as a compliment! This is the part of work that I enjoy, getting comfortable and getting settled; not being so stressed about what to do and where to go. The part that I enjoy so much about my "role" is the fact that I'm "backstage" so much of the time that I don't really see any part of the park, even though I do really love the little bit of interaction I have with the guest, its almost like the park is separate; like the magic is upheld.
So I finally went to Epcot and I'll just say that I was pleasantly surprised.
The park is, of course, beautiful and really quite innovative. Epcot was Walt Disney's dream project and lets just say that I'm sure he would be pleased. I spent hours seeing all the fishes and enjoying the Finding Nemo attractions (Turtle Talk with Crush = adorable.) Soarin' has got to be one of my all time favorite rides in the entire resort it is such a treat! The World Showcase is brilliant and I simply cannot wait to try all this incredible food from every parts of the world. I ended the night with Illuminations which was absolutely spectacular!!
On another night Jordyn and I finally went to a park just the two of us and we went to my "home" of sorts, Hollywood Studios!! I finally saw Beauty and the Beast and Fantasmic which, in short, were both magical and spectacular!! (Minus the screaming kid during the most emotional part of Beauty and the Beast)
The weather here is absolutely cre cre (crazy) after work on Friday there was a slight drizzle as I was walking to the bus, no biggie I would be just a little wet. While standing there waiting the drizzle got a little harder; okay so maybe a I'll be more than a little wet. A few minutes pass and the clouds open up and its a downpour. Forget umbrellas and even ponchos, this rain is coming in from all sides and within a minute everyone outside is drenched head to foot. It was so cold especially when the wind blew and my shoes were soaked there was literally a puddle in my shoes. Bus finally arrives (late) and get this....the man turns on his AC!!! To make things even more spectacular, when asked if he could turn it off because everyone in that bus was freezing he said he wouldn't because he was hot, what a butt-head....So to document this wet memory I took a pic of me soaking wet and freezing:
Well right after this picture was taken my phone's screen went out...just like that, a flicker and nothing, it has gotten wet just like everything else in my purse...it was recommended to put my phone in rice because the moisture is absorbed so for now...my phone is out of use and sitting in a bowl of rice.
Today I went to Downtown Disney for a bit and found a craft that before I leave I simply must do, Design-a-Tee (the Disney version) totally gonna create an original Mickey shirt!! So excited!! Also.....
I GOT TICKETS FOR HARRY POTTER!!!!

Reason for the title of my blog post...after going grocery shopping at Walmart, I tripped walking on a flat surface and scratched up my knee. Boo, its been quite a few years since I've tripped and fallen and the worse part about this whole ordeal is that the paint chipped on my recently painted toes. :(

Coba- When it Rains...

So we've been here about two weeks and it has been a whirlwind!! Literally!!
Work has definitely kept me busy with long hours and plenty of shifts but on the plus side I am starting to get familiar with my responsibilities and I'm becoming more confident in my "role." For my first three days of work I trained with three different coordinators who each showed me the way of doing things. Sunday is my "burn in" day which pretty much is my day to do all the parts of my role with basically little or no help. I'm freakin' out a little but I sure I can do my job. Its been really enjoyable doing costuming so far, my favorite bit by far is talking to the guest once they come to us to be dressed in their costumes, they are so excited to get to be onstage and in on the action!!!
So I have to explain my title, coming from Texas constant rain is a not too familiar concept...well this has all changed now!! This past week, a minimum of a 30%-40% chance of rain has been in the forecast each and everyday! This rain comes seems to come from nowhere and can be on again and off again for hours. When it rains, the guests flock to the inside and buy up as many Disney ponchos as they can get their hands on. Of course, safety or, "Safe D" is #1 priority so when rains occurs, or more specifically, if lightening occurs things must be changed, delayed, or cancelled for safety reasons. My very second day of training there was lightening right before two shows and since a BIG portion of the set is metal, they had to drastically alter the show since they would not move the set. Also if there is lightening, rides will shut down and parades might be cancelled or delayed as well. On one of my shorter work days, Jordyn, Christine, Sherrin and I went to Magic Kingdom and while we were there we wanted to see the "3 o'clock parade." Right before 3pm, it started to rain for another time that day and I started to worry that they would have to cancel it. Thankfully Mother Nature held her own for a bit and the sun was out and it became nice and thick and humid outside; perfect parade weather ;). Here's pics of the rain:

Coba-Lights, Camera, Action....Make some Disney Magic!!

Hello All!!
Okay so I finally found out what I'll be doing with costuming...get excited!!
So I'll be at the one and only Disney's Hollywood Studios Park working the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular (simply called, "Epic" by cast and crew) I get to work with the costumes, work with the actors, and help dress the guests that get pulled from the crowd! My first day of training was really a blast, and it went by so super fast. The other crew members are really nice and so were the actors. Of course I'm still learning and still learning names, but everyone was really helpful and seemed excited to have me there! Now I can't take or post pictures because its "backstage" but it was a real blast to be in the action and in the middle of it all!!
So....what's this show about?? Well of course I won't give away any surprises and secrets but it's an exciting stunt show that features all different kinds of stunts...it has a "behind the scenes" feel by using some of the performers as crew people and it uses guests from the audience to get them involved in the action. The show is performed about 5 times during the weekdays and 6 or 7 times during the weekend!! Oh My Gosh I WANT that life!! :D
In order to see the show, I went to Hollywood Studios for the first time last Saturday and OMG soooo glad that will be my "home" for the next seven months!! It has so much stuff and so much to look at!!! We went on all these amazing rides: like the Tower of Terror, the Movie Ride, Star Tours, the Toy Story Ride, and the Aerosmith Rockin' Roller Coaster and watched Epic! Of course those were the last couple days the Star Wars Weekend was going on and we got to see some characters which was fun too. I still think that Magic Kingdom is my fav (since I love fantasy and romance and what fits that better than Magic Kingdom) but this park is definitely fun and adventurous!!
So I've heard several different people talk about or mention that working at the park has "ruined" the magic for them...so far this couldn't be further from the truth. To explain this philosophy: I see my job and my "play" as two separated entities: when I'm working it is strictly business; I'm there to do a job and to as the they say, "Make Magic Happen." While I'm at the park, I am a Guest and I fully immense myself in the Disney world, I forget what all was going on before and as soon as I enter the park and I'm truly a kid again. If anything, seeing all the "backstage" things have only increased my awe for what this park does and how great Disney really is at putting on a show! No detail is overlooked and nothing is unexplored!!

Coba- More than 24hrs in a Day!

Whew! Doesn't seem like I've only been here a few days. So far a lot has been happening and going on. Hang on folks, this is gonna get crazy!! :D
So Monday morning Jordyn and I wake up like super early to check in. We wake up at like 5:30, shower and get ready quickly, load up the car, grab some K bars to go and then take off for check-in. This doesn't actually start till 9am, but we wanted to get there early to improve our chances of getting a room we wanted. We arrive at about 8am at one of the apartment complexes they have here for college program students and there is already massive line outside! Phew talk about a surprise, later I found out that people had actually begun lining up at about 6am...that sounds a bit extreme! Finally we decide that I should stand in line while Jordyn found a parking space (which for a moment, there was none of.) We started going through the check-in and it was a lot of little stops or like checkpoints...this whole bit took hours because that's how many college program participants there were. During this whole process, we found out our role: mine is Costuming with Entertainment (woohoo!) and Jordyn is Quick Service Food and Beverage at a placed called the Electric Umbrella at Epcot! We also got our room assignment: Patterson Court 10102! We were fingered printed, filed out tax info, and got our schedule for our first couple days of training. We were finally done with our whole check-in at about noon, so we went to check out our apartment and to meet your new roomies! We ended the day with a Welcome Housing Event, which was kinda long and tedious followed by a trip to Walmart to buy groceries... BTW nicest Walmart I've ever seen!
Let me just say that we have a pretty decent sized apartment and I only have to pay a little over $80 a week for it! Crazy! When you first walk in there is the kitchen to your left and a wide living room area on the right. In front of you is mine and Jordyn's room. We each have a twin bed, dresser, and vanity and we share a bathroom and closet. Also in our apartment is the outside "porch" area. Its a decent size space and I'm excited about eating some meals out there from time to time.
So about the roomies: we have a second pair of sisters with us! How crazy is that? Lauren and Brittany Nanney from Tennessee and they are so sweet. We also have Sherrin Miller from New Hampshire, she's done the program before so she's become our unofficial tour guide/answerer to all questions! And then there's Christine Nelson from New Jersey she is super nice and is a lover of musicals and Harry Potter, we are totally gonna get along! :D
Tuesday was a day-off day to finish un-packing and to get comfortable. Jordyn and I also used this time to catch up on some much needed sleep. We also checked out one of the outlet malls near us, a nearby Starbucks and....Downtown Disney!! It was so beautiful and so much fun! They had so many stores and toy stores that completely blew me away. At "Once Upon a Toy" right in the entrance is a place to make your own Mr. or Mrs. Potato Head!! So excited for that! We also found a huge Lego store, an amazing place for candy and chocolate, super exciting and fancy restaurants (the biggest Planet Hollywood I've ever seen) a dinner movie theatre at AMC, a FIVE story virtual interactive park and Cirque du Soleil! While we were there, Jordyn and I danced to the sounds of an amazing sax player and enjoyed a super sweet candy apple at Candy Cauldron!
Day three was Traditions held at Disney University (yes there is one!) Traditions is a mandatory class all new cast members must take to become part of the Disney Family. During this class, we learned that this park is magical because we make the magic. We also did a walk around the Magic Kingdom to look for live proof about how this magic is made. Near the end, we went over some Disney history, now our heritage and "our" history as part of the Company. Mickey himself even dropped by to deliver our name badges!!
After this class, we were officially part of the team. As such, we were able to use our perks right away starting with free parking and free park admission. All 6 of the roomies gathered together to go to which park? None other than Magic Kingdom!! I did not know this, but the park itself is about a mile and half away from the parking lot so you have to take a Ferry or a Monorail to the gates. The greatest sight to see was the castle, all lit up in different colors and absolutely beautiful!! Main Street USA was a sight to see too; strung with while lights all over was so stunning and beautiful. Our first ride we went on is an all time classic, "It's a Small World" amazing how something so simple in theory now is such a tribute to where we have come from and where we are going technically. We also went through the Haunted Mansion, went thorough the line of Space Mountain but it started having technical issues, the PeopleMover ride and we also got to see "Wishes" the firework show behind the castle! Our "seats" blocked out most of the fireworks, but I cried like a baby anyway. Before we left the park for the night, Jordyn and I got 1st Visit pins to celebrate our evening and we took the Ferry back to the parking lot with Magic Kingdom and the lit up castle in our backview...aaaahhhh really feel like I'm gonna love it here!
Its called the "Happiest Place on Earth" for a reason and I'm lucky enough to call it, "Home."

We also went through the Haunted Mansion, went thorough the line of Space Mountain but it started having technical issues, the PeopleMover ride and we also got to see "Wishes" the firework show behind the castle! Our "seats" blocked out most of the fireworks, but I cried like a baby anyway. Before we left the park for the night, Jordyn and I got 1st Visit pins to celebrate our evening and we took the Ferry back to the parking lot with Magic Kingdom and the lit up castle in our backview...aaaahhhh really feel like I'm gonna love it here!

Well, WE'VE MADE IT!! WE'VE MADE IT TO ORLANDO!! We are right on the doorsteps of the Walt Disney Resort!! Woooo!!
The drive, though still long, was quite uneventful...but really quite beautiful! Here's some pics:

Well tomorrow is an early and busy day for us: Check-in, un-packing, finding out our work locations, attending welcome sessions, and hopefully meeting some great new Disney lovers like our selfs!!

Coba-"The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step"

Hello All!!
So Jordyn and I began our loooong trip to Florida today and it was KA-RAZY!! We left at like 9:30am and went through Louisiana:
Mississippi
That ones a little blurry, so we took this one:
And a little bit of Alabama:
So while on the road today we learned some "life lessons"
1. People in Louisiana drive FAST! Every posted speed limit the locals were at least ten over (crazy)
2. Rain in the east comes out of nowhere, rains really hard for a few minutes, then disappears just as quickly as it arrives. (Check out these pics)
3. Because it rains more frequently in the east, it is absolutely beautiful and green outside:
4. However, because it rains so frequently, it is totally possible to feel super dirty after one step outside (even if you just showered)
and finally...
5. Only in Texas are drivers courteous enough to move to the side of the road when someone is either pulled over or if they were on the side of the road cuz they broke down, had a blow out, or just stopped for any other reason. Seriously I was the only one moving!
So tomorrow we will finish our journey with driving through the rest of Alabama and driving through Florida, I can not wait to go to sleep to rest my eyes; feel like I'm still seeing double!! Fortunately, we have our own beds to rest our eyes!

Coba-Packing Packing and More Packing!!

With tomorrow being mine and Jordyn's last full day at home, the packing is getting intense. The apartments provided are fully furnished with furniture but they even have some kitchen stuff like plates, cups, cooking and baking things and silverware! Still we have to take casual clothes, dress clothes, shoes, decorations, and bathroom things! Since we are driving in my sister's car we have to share the space; 7 months away from home and we got a trunk and a back seat to take everything we need! So far I have two large cloth bags, one medium sized cloth bag, two "Shoes Under" things (those cloth shoe storage cases), a laptop bag, a bathroom storage thing, a laundry basket full of movies and decorating items, and a backpack. Oh My Lady Gaga!!
